FIELD TRIP - TGSIT BORU, ETHIOPIA
Tgsit Boru is a female farmer from Beloya, a kebele (village) in the Kochere district of the Gedio zone. A mother of six, she manages 2.8 hectares of land at an elevation of 1705 meters above sea level. Her farm is dedicated primarily to coffee, where she cultivates traditional and locally renowned varieties. These trees thrive under the natural shade of 'Cordia Africana' which are a fast-growing, broad-leaved tree native tropical to Africa, creating a biodiverse and resilient ecosystem that supports both her crops and her household.
Tgsit's dedication to quality shows in her processing. After careful harvesting, the coffee ferments for 36 hours before being washed and sun-dried on raised African beds. This slow, attentive method preserves sweetness and clarity, producing exceptional Kochere coffee while sustaining her family, community and land.
