STORY TIME - SIRONKO, UGANDA
During a historic famine, migrating tribes found relief by a river they named Sironko meaning “solace” and “peacefulness” in the local Lumasaba language. Today, that same river nourishes the land and communities on the slopes of Mount Elgon in Uganda, where this exceptional Arabica coffee is grown between 1,200 and 2,200 meters above sea level.
The fertile volcanic soil, abundant rainfall, and high altitude create ideal conditions for cultivation. At the Sironko Washing Station in Budadiri, only the ripest cherries are hand-picked and sorted by density to ensure top quality. They are then eco-processed using a mechanical pulper, with waste materials composted and water recycled for local agriculture.
The result is a clean, vibrant cup that reflects the rich heritage and environment of the Mt. Elgon region.
