Rodrigo de Melo Souza, the owner of the BelaVista estate, shares his story rooted in a humble agricultural background in the rural area of Congonhal, Minas Gerais. Descended from José Paulino and Maria das Dores, he was raised in a farming family that relied solely on agriculture for their livelihood. From a young age, Rodrigo and his siblings assisted their parents, fostering a deep appreciation for farming. While they cultivated various crops like corn, beans, potatoes, and rice, coffee quickly became their family's passion and focus. Today, alongside his wife Haline and their two daughters, Rodrigo is dedicated to coffee farming, continually seeking ways to enhance the quality of their production and deepen their knowledge of the craft.
Colombia
In October 2022, we had a meeting with a fresh coffee importer named 'Colombian Artisan Coffee,' led by Brian and Diana. They brought samples from family and friends' farms in the Antioquia region of Colombia. This particular coffee is a microlot carefully sourced from five family farms owned by Diana's relatives, including her brothers, sisters, and nephews. These farms are located next to each other in the quaint town of San Roque, near Medellin city in Colombia.
