STORY TIME - BUKONZO | UGANDA

Founded in 2009, Bukonzo Organic Farmers Co-operative Union was created to help farmers in south-west Uganda earn fairer prices for their coffee. Recognising the region’s strong potential for high-quality arabica, Bukonzo invested in local micro washing stations and achieved organic certification, enabling the production of fully washed coffees and higher premiums for farmers.

Working in one of Uganda’s most economically challenged regions, the cooperative places strong emphasis on long-term sustainability. Farmers use organic fertilisers from local livestock and practise intercropping with food and fruit crops, helping to protect the environment while building a more secure livelihood for their families.
