BALANCE - EL GUAYACAN | PERU
This coffee brings together a group of dedicated producers whose farms sit under the influence of the Huamantanga Forest and the Tabaconas, Namballe National Sanctuary. These protected natural spaces create the kind of ideal microclimatic conditions, constant rain, clay-rich soils, and remarkable biodiversity that specialty coffee thrives in.

Processed using the washed method across a blend of Caturra, Bourbon, Catimor, and Pache varieties, El Guayacan is a clean, comforting cup — think milk chocolate biscuit and a generous drizzle of golden syrup. Approachable, satisfying, and produced with genuine care for both quality and community.

Nestled in the northernmost reaches of Peru's Cajamarca department, the provinces of San Ignacio and Jaen sit close to the Ecuadorian border, wrapped in pristine natural forest and steeped in a history that runs deep. This region has long been considered the heartland of Peruvian coffee and in recent years, a growing commitment to quality and sustainability has brought with it real prosperity for the communities that call it home.
The name El Guayacan is a nod to the magnificent yellow-flowering trees found scattered across the coffee landscapes of northern Cajamarca. Tall, majestic, and quietly protective, Guayacan trees offer shade to the coffee plants growing beneath them — a small but beautiful symbol of the harmony between nature and farming that defines this region.
Our partners at Caravela first began working with this community in 2019, and what started as a relationship with 35 producers has grown into something far more meaningful. Over the past few years, farmers here have made a conscious shift away from conventional commercial practices, investing in better wet mills, improved drying infrastructure, and a more technical understanding of coffee as a craft. The results speak for themselves.
