COMMUNITY.
RUIRU MILLS ESTATE, KENYA, KIAMBU.
This lot comes from the Ruiru Mills Estate in Kiambu, Kenya, The estate, spanning 65 hectares, was originally established by British colonists and is now one of six farms owned and managed by Sasini, a publicly traded company with a majority Kenyan ownership. Sasini's estates have a long-standing commitment to equity and community.
For their workers, this includes offering housing, early childhood education, union membership, and ensuring wages that exceed the minimum wage. Kiambu offers the perfect conditions for Arabica coffee to thrive: its proximity to the equator, iron-rich, semi-volcanic soils, plentiful sunshine, and consistently high altitudes reaching up to 2,000 meters above sea level. The cool nighttime temperatures in these fertile highlands allow the coffee cherries to ripen gradually, enhancing the acidity and complexity of the resulting cup.
